Creating more games is a big part of this. We've got some other stuff in very early phases. Cool, ambitious living games are being developed in-house and we're constructing the teams for. We have built a publishing infrastructure and we have proven it over the decades with RuneScape. We've rsgoldfast team upgraded it and modernised it on time. When the game first came out, there wasn't any Facebook or YouTube. We have had to develop these abilities. Perhaps we ought to have come to cellular earlier, but we are reaching that stage and it is looking very good.

In being a publisher for their products and having to know about esports, influencer management and lots of community direction with big events and so forth, those are abilities that not many publishers have and do them well. The idea is we get to use the things we are great at where we've got these basic skills and infrastructure and well we will need to do is put in scale and flexibility to them."

There is 1 catch for this new tag - Jagex has attempted to release other games before beginning 2010 and - to be frank - which didn't go well. When we caught up with the team behind Partners before the scheme's announcement, they weren't able to offer much in the way of historical circumstance they were all relative newcomers to the studio. But Mansell united around the time the elderly publishing division kicked off and says that things are much different this time around. "I need to be respectful of what has been done before. Publishing is a integrated strategy for Jagex. This is not an offshoot," he states.

"When Jagex did it earlier, it was not known as Jagex, it had been in another building. It was individuals being given a load of money to go be a writer. I am not criticising that, I am simply pointing out the gaps. We're taking the process of becoming highly integrated where we are benefitting from the institutional expertise, skills, processes and technologies that we have shown with RuneScape and Old School on PC and now on mobile. We're profiting that Jagex has done so far. This big online shop wasn't the case before. It was a side project with no integration. Additionally, Jagex has distinct owners now and we're taking a longer-term check into the future. We speak meaningfully about five years in the future with our parent and sister companies."
