Shingles herpes zoster: the green book chapter
Individuals with a previous history of a shingles infection are still eligible for a shingles vaccine. Reactions can be following either the first, second or both doses of Shingrix vaccine. Reactions are generally reported to be lower in those 70 years of age and above. The need for, and the timing of a booster dose, for individuals who have received either Zostavax or Shingrix has not yet been determined. Immunocompetent individuals turning 65 and 70 years of age from 1 September each year will be offered Shingrix vaccine and will remain eligible up to their 80th birthday. From 1 September 2023, the routine age for the shingles programme began the change from routinely offering Zostavax at 70 years of age to routinely offering Shingrix at 60 years of age. In 2019, JCVI updated its recommendation for the shingles vaccination programme having reviewed cost-effectiveness modelling on a routine Shingrix® vaccination programme. The committee recommended that the Zostavax® programme should be replaced with a 2-dose Shingrix® programme offering vaccination routinely at 60 years of age. It was advised that those aged between 60 and 70 years should also be offered vaccination with Shingrix®. If they are given a dose of Shingrix vaccine in error, they should be reassured that this is not likely to be harmful. In this situation, as Shingrix was not indicated, there is no requirement to offer the second dose of Shingrix and complete the course. At this time, JCVI also recommended that all severely immunosuppressed individuals over the age of 50 years should be offered Shingrix® vaccination. The Committee noted that vaccination in this group was particularly important, due to the higher incidence of herpes zoster. This advice was consistent with the original recommendation for vaccination of all adults aged 70 to 79 years with herpes zoster vaccine but, at this time, there were insufficient supplies of Shingrix vaccine to be able to implement this recommendation. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) previously recommended that the universal shingles vaccination programme should be updated to offer 2 doses of Shingrix® at 60 years of age. This was to replace the previous programme which offered Zostavax® at 70 years of age. Understanding more about the vaccine’s effectiveness and its benefits can help you make an informed decision about your health in partnership with your health care provider. There will be a small minority of eligible individuals who were vaccinated relatively recently with Zostavax®. However, the majority of the vaccinated cohort would have been immunised some time ago when becoming eligible at 70 years of age. There would therefore be little benefit to operating a revaccination programme for which eligibility is determined on the amount of time since Zostavax® vaccination was given. The committee concluded that based on modelling, there was a clear cost-effective benefit in offering a single dose of Shingrix® to all adults 80 years of age and older. In October 2024, JCVI reviewed the updated cost-effectiveness modelling with a view to advising on whether additional older age cohorts, who may remain vulnerable to shingles, should be offered vaccination. The researchers initially extracted records for nearly 230,000 elderly patients born between 1930 and 1960 who were living in Ontario and registered with primary care providers. But more than the number of days, the status of the rash is what really matters. You may pass the virus to other people if you have an active rash (however long that lasts). It’s important to remember there are a variety of factors that affect vaccine efficacy for each person, such as age and overall health. Shingrix vaccine was approved for use in adults 50 years of age or over in the US, Canada and Australia in 2017, and for use in the European Union and Japan in 2018. It is also licensed for use in the UK, New Zealand, Singapore and China. Use of Shingrix has been related to the availability and supply of vaccine in different countries. Healthcare practitioners are reminded to only order what they need for a 2 to 4 week period rather than over-ordering or stockpiling vaccines. It’s unlikely you will contract the varicella-zoster virus from kissing since it’s rarely spread from contact with saliva or mucous membranes. However, if someone has a shingles rash with weeping blisters on their face or lips, you could contract the virus from being in contact with the rash. Avoiding direct contact with infants is highly recommended if you have shingles. During 2024 JCVI have formed further advice for the vaccination of additional cohorts who remain at risk from severe shingles disease and resulting post-herpetic neuralgia. Shingrix may be offered at the same appointment to individuals aged 75 years and above who attend, year-round, for their RSV vaccination. There is no evidence that it can cause the development of a vesicular rash. If a vesicular rash does develop after Shingrix vaccine, the patient should be referred for assessment and management as it is possible that they have coincidentally developed shingles naturally (not due to the vaccine). Individuals with bleeding disorders may be vaccinated intramuscularly if, in the opinion of a doctor familiar with the individual’s bleeding risk, vaccines or similar small volume intramuscular injections can be administered with reasonable safety by this route. If the individual receives medication or treatment to reduce bleeding, for example treatment for haemophilia, intramuscular vaccination can be scheduled shortly after such medication or treatment is administered. Study data has shown that the protection offered by vaccination with Zostavax® declines over time, with estimates suggesting that vaccine effectiveness against disease 8 years after vaccination is not statistically significant (see references 7 and 8). JCVI advises that Shingrix® programme eligibility should be expanded to include all severely immunosuppressed adults aged 18 years and over. Scientists also observed that new dementia diagnoses among birth cohorts eligible for the shingles vaccine in Ontario were much less common than in the same birth groups in other Canadian provinces that did not have a shingles vaccine program. This new study discovered evidence suggesting receiving the shingles vaccine may help reduce or delay dementia diagnosis in older adults. Over the past few years, there has been a growing research interest in how the shingles vaccine may help protect against other medical conditions than just herpes zoster, more commonly known as shingles. The first dose does not need to be repeated even if the recommended interval is exceeded. Organic shingles were manufactured with materials such as paper, recycled cardboard, rags and wood chips, before being saturated with asphalt. However, these fell out of favour as they were less durable than fibreglass shingles and often contained more asphalt. Traditionally, shingles were sawn from a wooden block, while shakes were hand-split using a mallet and froe. Pinnacle® Sun shingles are made with 3M™ Cool Roof Technology, which reflects the sun’s radiant heat away from your roof, helping to keep the interior of your home cooler. With Class 3 impact resistance, a 130-mph wind limited warranty and Scotchgard™ Protector, your Pinnacle® Sun roof can stand up to the harshest elements while maintaining its beauty for years. Specially designed for a solid foundation and seamless, secure installation working in tandem with the roof shingles for optimal sealing and performance. People with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for these severe complications. The virus spreads through direct contact with the fluid from the shingles blisters. This would be regardless of the number of years since the administration of the Shingrix vaccine or the age at which they received these doses. At present, there is no recommendation to give a booster dose after the primary schedule has been completed. A clear reduction in new dementia cases was observed only among individuals born in 1945 and 1946—the birth cohorts eligible for Ontario's publicly-funded live-attenuated shingles (varicella-zoster virus) vaccine. This pattern was not observed at other birthdate thresholds, nor in other Canadian provinces that did not offer the vaccine free of charge. • Shingles itself is not contagious, but the varicella-zoster virus that causes it can be spread through direct contact with the fluid from active shingles blisters. For this study, researchers began their research by analyzing health records from almost 230,000 older adults born between 1930 and 1960 living in Ontario, Canada, and registered with a primary care provider. A study published in January 2026 has even found that the shingles vaccine might help slow biological aging. WHO will issue updated recommendations on the use of chickenpox and shingles vaccine in March 2025. The most common complication of shingles is postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), which is persistent nerve pain that can last for months or even years after the rash has healed. The recommended schedule for Shingrix vaccine is 2 doses, with the second dose given a minimum of 8 weeks after the first dose. If the second dose is inadvertently given at least 4 weeks from the first dose, it will count as a valid dose. My contractor installed Presidential TL shingles on my roof, I'm extraordinarily happy with the result. Self-adhering underlayment is installed at vulnerable roof areas to help prevent leaks from wind-driven rain and ice dams. Our products are engineered with an emphasis on performance, protection, and aesthetics. Wherever you live, whatever weather you live with, meet it with beautiful resilience. The current PGDs should always be checked as to whether prior Zostavax administration is an exclusion criterion – a Patient Specific Direction (PSD) may be required. The absence of a PGD that enables vaccination to proceed should never be a barrier to vaccinating an individual who is eligible. Shingrix vaccine is available via the routine immunisation programme for immunocompetent individuals up to the 80th birthday. Where an individual has turned 80 years of age following their first dose of Shingrix, a second dose should be provided to complete the 2 dose schedule. Immunocompetent individuals will no longer be eligible to receive the second dose once they have reached their 81st birthday. This would include offering a vaccine to individuals who had never previously been eligible for shingles vaccination, those who had been eligible for Zostavax® but didn’t take up vaccination, and those who have previously received Zostavax®. The key finding from the modelling was that an extra single dose of Shingrix® for individuals over the age of 80 years would be cost-effective.
Japan Single Ply Flat Roofing Membrane Market Advanced Production Systems Outlook
Japan’s market landscape is defined by deep integration of AI into industrial systems, precision manufacturing, and process automation. The focus remains on long-term technology resilience, robotics-driven efficiency, and incremental innovation rather than disruptive experimentation. AI adoption is strongly aligned with quality optimization, workforce augmentation, and smart factory development. I have been fitting new flat roofs now for over 30 years, I have seen virtually every type of flat roof, from being installed on day one, to its final death. REGUPOL Walkway Standard is a high density rubber maintenance path system designed to protect flat roof waterproofing while clearly defining safe access routes. It’s commonly used around rooftop plant, solar PV systems, antennas and other technical installations where regular maintenance access is required. The typical guarantee is 25 years with a life expectancy of 30 Years+, although it has been reported to last up to 50 years in the right circumstances. On the downside it can be very slick to walk on when wet, and may shrink slightly over time. This has made these types of roof very popular on commercial premises and with architects as you can imagine. Most fibreglass roof guarantees are for years, and there will be no problems at all if correctly installed. I have personally seen and worked on GRP roofs that are 30 years old, where there was no visible sign of wear or damage apart from a slightly faded colour coat to the finish. Asphalt can be laid on most rigid structures such as concrete, timber and metal and can be worked around all sorts of details like curves, upstands, slopes and roof lights. Developed regions focus on efficiency, innovation, and advanced technologies, while emerging regions prioritize scalability, adoption of affordable solutions, and infrastructure development. PIB or PolyIsoButylene was introduced in the 1930’s and has the longest track record of all the single ply systems above. It too is 100% recyclable and the lifespan is typical in excess or 30 years, with reports of roofs that are over 50 years old. Like all of the other single ply membranes above it’s easy to install and durable, it is however usually the most costly option. On the downside PIB is not resistant to solvents such a petrol, lacquers, fats and oils, but these are unlikely to be in a domestic setting. Fibreglass flat roofs have been used in the UK for over 30 years in small numbers, but over the past 10 years interest in GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) fibreglass roofs have really taken off. Growth is often concentrated in regions with strong technology adoption, industrial investment, and favorable regulatory frameworks. Key drivers include technological advancement, automation, regulatory support, rising consumer demand, and investment in innovation. AI, analytics, and digital platforms are increasingly influencing market scalability and efficiency. Key Players Analysis provides an overview of the market’s participant landscape, highlighting the strategic positioning, operational focus, and capability distribution across leading and emerging entities. It evaluates how participants are adapting to demand shifts, technology adoption, pricing pressures, and regulatory expectations to sustain competitiveness and long-term market relevance. I always question whether the firm will still be trading in 50 years or if they would honour the guarantee after a few decades have passed, so take this with a pinch of salt. We are here to help you get your product delivered to anywhere in Ireland, even to those hardly accessible areas. Timber Kit Buildings uses only the highest quality timber and materials for their buildings, ensuring they are built to last. You have 14 days from receiving your item(s) to return them should you wish to do so. Torch on felt roofing, in case you hadn’t guessed describes the method of application. Great strides continue to be made in bitumen and modified bitumen technology such as SBS or APP, resulting in much better resistance to UV damage and cracking. This type of felt roof comes on rolls and is laid with the aid of a very large blow torch that heats and melts the rear of the felt, melting it onto the roof structure below. Typically it’s applied as a 3 layer system usually consisting of a perforated underlay, a 2mm underlay layer, then thick 4-5mm felt. These layers are all laid in a half lap manner, so all the joints are the furthest away they can be from another joint. Regulatory changes can also affect market access, product compliance, and operational strategy. Regulations on safety, quality, and environmental compliance can vary widely across regions. Companies must align strategies to meet local regulatory frameworks, which can influence product development, pricing, and market entry decisions. The market typically comprises multiple product types and applications, ranging from standard offerings to advanced or high-performance solutions. Applications span commercial, industrial, and consumer use cases depending on regional needs and sector requirements. A dark space can suddenly feel open, airy, and full of life with the help from a smartly placed sun tunnel. Investment potential is also shaped by regulatory incentives, public-private initiatives, and infrastructure development. Market leadership typically comes from regions with advanced industrial infrastructure, high technology penetration, and strong investment in R&D. However, emerging markets often provide high growth potential despite smaller current market share. Compare flat roofs – Even though some roofs score low in certain areas, they are within a few points in overall scoring. Whether it’s information about building permission, missing parts, or issues with an item, we are always there to help. At Timber Kit Buildings we pride themselves on exceptional customer service, ensuring you have a positive experience from start to finish. TPE or Thermoplastic Polyolefin Elastomer is the ultimate environmentally friendly membrane so far, and is 100% recyclable. Introduced in the 1990’s it’s the newest of the bunch with a reported lifespan of 30 years, but a typical guarantee is for 20. This membrane looks promising, but I don’t have enough real world feedback to give any sensible negative or cautionary advice at the moment. Asphalt or mastic asphalt has been around for a very long while now, with good results, and todays asphalt contains modern polymer formulations making it even better. Most new domestic rubber roofs are glued down to a new wooden roof substrate, although they can in certain circumstances be laid on top and mechanically fixed or weighed down with ballast. My preference for domestic roofs is a new install with new roof decking as a single ply membrane. This is a question I get asked a lot, and to be honest there isn’t a right or wrong answer – But there is sometimes a type of flat roof that would suit a flat roof of a particular size, shape, detail level or budget. Companies are leveraging automation, machine learning, and predictive intelligence to improve scalability, reduce operational friction, and enhance competitive positioning. Strong venture funding, early adoption of generative AI, and deep integration of cloud-native architectures continue to accelerate market innovation and commercialization. Regulatory clarity around AI governance is also influencing responsible deployment and long-term investment confidence. In short any roof covering that can make a flat roof waterproof in one layer, unlike roofing felt with its 3 layer system for instance. This can include EPDM rubber and fibreglass talked about above, but commonly, especially in the trade, and in this article it refers to PVC , TPO, TPE and PIB. Organizations must monitor global trends to adapt their strategies effectively. Technologies such as AI, IoT, predictive analytics, and automation are optimizing operations, improving decision-making, and enhancing customer experience. Adoption of these technologies drives efficiency, cost reduction, and competitive differentiation. Demand is primarily driven by individual consumers, enterprises, and industrial organizations.

Terracotta tiles require minimal maintenance once installed correctly.Their colour remains stable because it forms naturally during firing. Major growth drivers include rising demand for durable roofing solutions amid climate change, increasing renovation activities, and heightened awareness of energy efficiency.
Pros and Cons of Asphalt Shingles for Residential Roofing
Starting at the eaves, the first row is secured, making sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for overlap and fastener placement. Subsequent rows are applied, ensuring that the staggered pattern is maintained for aesthetic appeal and effective weather resistance. Attention to detail during this stage can significantly enhance the roof's performance and lifespan. Homeowners should conduct these checks at least twice a year, preferably in spring and autumn, to identify any potential issues. This practice helps to detect minor damages, such as loose or missing shingles, before they escalate into more significant problems. Cleaning the gutters regularly ensures that rainwater flows freely, reducing the risk of water pooling on the roof. Additionally, ensuring adequate ventilation in the attic helps maintain optimal temperatures and humidity levels, extending the overall life of the roofing material. Leading players are expanding strategic partnerships, optimizing distribution networks, and investing in talent development to support long-term growth. As market dynamics continue to shift, these leaders remain committed to agility, resilience, and value creation, positioning themselves to capitalize on emerging opportunities and sustain competitive advantage. MEA is heterogeneous GCC countries provide high purchasing power and public investment, while many African markets are nascent with infrastructure challenges. Installation techniques also influence how well the shingles perform under adverse weather conditions.Weather patterns in the geographical area can greatly affect the lifespan of asphalt shingles. Constant exposure to UV rays can cause degradation, while extreme temperatures may lead to expansion and contraction, weakening the structure over time. Additionally, regions prone to heavy rainfall or snow may face increased wear due to potential water damage or ice formation. Proper ventilation in the roofing system can also enhance longevity, as it reduces heat buildup and moisture retention. AQUAPEA closes the gap between leak detection and repair
I’ll also show you where a free roof inspection fits in and when it makes sense to book one instead of guessing. Cloud infrastructure and dedicated server droplets ensure high uptime. Understanding the root cause helps you choose the right fix—whether it’s resealing, tightening, or replacing components. Others start with a leak over the kitchen and, after a proper inspection, we find three or four problem zones. Fill out this quick form, so we can schedule your free roof inspection. However, as smart meter programs expand and pressure on water resources increases, it is increasingly suited to being the last resort rather than the first response. The AQUAPEA process involves introducing a small resin-filled ‘pea’ through an external meter chamber. Carried by normal line pressure, it is drawn into the defect where the polymer forms a durable seal through and around the leak, with no digging, shutdowns or surface disruption. Rather than defaulting to excavation for small-diameter leaks, rapid trenchless intervention can dramatically reduce leak duration. In warmer weather, soil shrinkage and movement can also stress pipework. Repeated thermal cycles increase the likelihood of cracking or bursting, making proactive maintenance essential. Knowing how to repair leaks at threaded plumbing joints empowers you to tackle one of the most common household plumbing issues—quickly and affordably. With the right tools, a bit of patience, and attention to detail, you can stop drips before they become disasters. Not only will you save money on plumber fees, but you’ll also conserve water and protect your home from hidden damage. The weight and vibration from traffic can compact surrounding soil, deform pipes, or disturb alignment—particularly where pipes are already weakened by age or corrosion. Regular inspections beneath high-traffic areas help reduce the risk of failure. Serving homes and commercial buildings across the UK, we use advanced detection tools and quality materials to keep your property dry and protected. We’ll sort the leak properly, so you’re not stressing every time the forecast says "storm". Across Australia, guides show major remedial leak work can easily push into this range depending on complexity, roof size and damage. If you want to know how to avoid roof valley leaks, read this article. During this detection-to-repair gap, treated and pressurised water continues to escape, carbon has already been spent, and the value of early detection steadily erodes. If a slight seep remains, one-quarter turn more may help—but stop if resistance increases sharply. Open the faucet downstream to release pressure and drain remaining water. Our repair services target structural weaknesses early — preventing costly full replacements whenever possible. Metal roofs are known for their durability and long lifespan, but like all roofing materials, they can develop leaks over time. Water mains installed at shallow depths are vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles. Contact us today to experience top-notch roofingservices in Brisbane. Two identical-looking stains on different homes can have completely different causes and costs. This is where most simple roof leak repair costs in Brisbane sit when the problem is localised and caught early. Catching leaks early greatly reduces environmental damage and cleanup costs. When a leak is found early, repairs are usually small and easy to manage. In contrast, waiting for a visible spill often leads to widespread downtime and major cleanup efforts. In most cases, especially if your roof is basically sound, repairing specific leaks is far cheaper than a full replacement. However, if your roof is very old, has widespread damage, or you’re constantly paying for new leak repairs, I’ll always talk honestly about where the tipping point is. Sometimes a staged plan (immediate leak fix now, broader maintenance later) gives better value than chasing the lowest one-off roof leak repair cost Brisbane price. A slow drip from a threaded plumbing joint isn’t just annoying—it can lead to water damage, mold growth, and higher utility bills if ignored. If you’ve noticed moisture around pipe connections under your sink or near fixtures, you’re not alone. How to repair leaks at threaded plumbing joints is a manageable DIY task when you know the right steps. Addressing these issues early prevents interior damage and extends overall roof lifespan. Knowing how to repair a leaking metal roof and taking the right steps can save you time and money in the long run. If you are experiencing a leaking or burst water main, identifying the underlying cause is essential to prevent further damage. Our engineers carry out detailed assessments to repair the fault and implement long-term solutions that reduce the risk of repeat failures. A simple check is to take a meter reading and then refrain from using any water in your house for several hours. The longer you can leave it, the more likely it is that small leaks can be identified – half a day is ideal before taking a second reading. Preventative maintenance is especially valuable for homes near golf course communities and open developments where roofs face higher environmental exposure. Properties located in high-wind exposure zones — particularly near Avon Belden Road — may require more extensive repair scope following storms. Some roofing issues require immediate response to prevent structural deterioration. Storm repairs often include shingle resecuring, flashing reseals, and decking patchwork where debris impact occurred. We use winter-rated sealants and cold-weather application methods to ensure repairs hold through freezing conditions. We trace leaks to their true origin — not just where water appears inside. Many leaks stem from flashing gaps or ventilation failures rather than shingle damage alone. Roof Replacement in Avon provides long-term protection for aging or severely damaged roofing systems. Roof Repair in Avon fixes leaks and storm damage before they turn into costly interior problems. Some roofing failures require immediate action to prevent structural damage.
